St John the Baptist Roof Restoration
WE NEED YOUR HELP
Currently the church roof is being held up by scaffolding. Without repair, the hammerbeam roof will fall down and our church will be lost forever. Our church roof is considered to be of international importance. Let's 'raise the roof' and preserve our historic church for us and future generations.

Update April 2026
Much of what is happening at the moment is behind the scenes, taking many hours and involves preparing the approximately 15 documents that will be needed for our mid-term review with the NLHF on 6th May. We are also preparing and sending off as many grant applications as possible, because the cost of the repairs is well over £1,000,000 and we will need to raise about £200,000 in match funding. . The VAT recovery scheme has ended so this match funding has to cover the 20% VAT that previously we would have been able to claim back. A steep mountain to climb. Thank you everyone for your support to this point, we need all your prayers. As always, thanks to the National Lottery Heritage Fund and lottery players for their support.
Hammerbeams, Heritage and Health – Restoration at St John the Baptist, Badingham
St John the Baptist Church in Badingham is Suffolk’s most at-risk church. Thanks to The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the rare hammerbeam roof will be restored alongside the development of a community activities plan that will shape the future of the role of the church for the community of Badingham and for the people of Suffolk and beyond.
